Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed Review

Full Review on Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed

Game Play:
Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed is a roleplaying beat ;em up action game developed by Acquire. This is a simple beat’em up game…. (chuckle) absolutely not. Nothing is normal or simple about this game play. Your health is actually 3 HP Bars; One for a Head Dress, One for A Upper Body Dress, and One for a Lower Body Dress. Why is it this way you ask? Well, the fighting style of the game is actually damaging the clothes of each section and then ripping them off the opponent to expose their delicious, raw skin to the sun and they evaporate into a misty kind of purple flame. In short you are fighting vampires. So you as the character will fight opponents through the broad day light and literally find these vampires beat, the snot out of them and tear a piece of their clothing off until there is nothing but there underwear. BUT! You can do something called a change strip and literally keep tearing cloths off of opponents until you come to about 9 or 10 chains and then an action sequence occurs in the back ground and once the combo is over, you can obliterate their underwear as well making them completely nude. Oh and this can be done for both guys and girls. Every enemy in the game is a bystander in the street. Minus the main characters you can literally fight ANYONE and do this to anyone. You use weapons like your fist, wooden swords, umbrellas, fans, water pistols, laptops, brief cases, and even a gumball machine. These are just some of the weapons you can use. You level up your abilities to strip cloths faster so you don’t tear them and you can keep them. You can wear anything from suites, to gothic Lolita clothes, casual garments, dresses, and more. You can gain special fighting styles, but their only for strip sequences only so you actually don’t use them and also you can do limit breaks from each individual partner you take with you to fight. Also, you can dress as women. You can literally dress your character in all women’s clothes, even undergarments as you unlock this in the game if you desire and you can dress your supporting characters as well. You essentially create and name your own character, though it is always a boy.
I love the unique and fun battling system, but it has its draw backs. It can be very unfair. You only get 2 have yourself and 1 other person in your party and you go up against a lot of people, sometimes more than 10 in one fight. The fights also tend to be glitchy and make for an unfair advantage at your part, especially when you’re ganged up by a bunch of angry maids trying to tear your clothes off. Considering fighting style of the game and the unique game play, I give this 7 out of 10 because it is a lot of fun.

Graphics:
The graphics of this game are ok. They aren’t bad, but they aren’t good as well. Sometimes the graphics tend to be a bit blocky and if the graphics where a tad better, this game would be so much fun. I mean PS4 has a beautiful graphics engine. This game should have utilized that more to make it a bit smoother. I understand that the game was going for that Otaku anime look, which I get because I am a huge anime fan, but it could have done better to really portray the characters and the environment. I give the graphics 4 out of 10.

Story:
The story is quite fascinating. You basically get turned into a vampire like creature called a synthester because your character was obsessed over rare anime figurines and wanted some. A girl by the name of Shizuku saves your life and explains what is going on. You meet up with your gang at a hideout where you and your friends help keep the streets safe from fights, disruption and now these synthesters. This game takes place dives in the heart of Akihabara which is actually a real place in the district of the Chiyoda Ward in Tokyo, Japan. This is a real place where anime lovers also know in the real world as Otakus come to gather. Akihabara is literally a central hub for all that is anime in Japan. I actually find this interesting because in the game all the shops and the shop flyers you can collect are 100% real places in Akihabara. The story itself involves unraveling the mystery of the synthesters, who is behind the mayhem and at the same time getting one of the girls in your combat party to fall madly in love with you. You actually make choices throughout the game to see which girl falls in love with you. You basically make up your ending if you play the choices right. With this game’s good story and real world connection I give the story 7 out of 10.

Overall I gave this game a 6 due to its unique and bizarre game play and its interesting story. Personally the Otaku in me would play this game over and over again.
