Bang For Your Buck: Shooters

$ – Not worth buying
$$ – Worth Renting First
$$$ – Buy When Cheap
$$$$ – Definite Buy

Lets go through and check out what shooters in 2017 will be worth your hard earned money. As of right now there isn’t a lot that has been announced but i’m sure we will have another list in the near future. But for now, we will look at 3; Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Mass Effect Andromeda and Prey (reboot).

Ghost Recon: Wildlands

gr-wildlandsGhost Recon: Wildlands is set in Boliva where you (and your squad) are tasked to disrupt the Drug Cartel network that is ravaging the land. The catch? Well… as an elite squad of Ghosts, there will be no help coming for you. You (and your team) are on your own as you move across this massive landscape (think GTA 5) laying waste to the entire network in any fashion you like.

So what makes it appealing? Well, like Destiny & The Division, this game is all about teaming up with friends and playing the game in the fashion you feel like. Want to wander the map, go for it. Want to be stealthy in all your missions, why not. Like ravaging the land with explosions, hold the trigger down and enjoy yourself. The more interesting part of Ghost Recon: Wildlands is giving you all these options and letting you loose in the world.

So… does it make you want to buy it? If you are into open world games and are a fan of Tom Clancy, then this one should remain on your radar when its released in March. But if you feel burned from other open world games, then you want to give this game a rent or wait till its cheaper before you jump full in. I would say $$$.

Mass Effect Andromeda

mass-effect-anThose who remember Mass Effect when it showed up on the Xbox back in 2012, will remember a sci-fi game that opened our minds and the galaxy to us. But unlike its predecessors, Mass Effect takes place years after the events of Shepard and the Reaper wars as humanity looks to expand into the stars and into new territory. You are a Pathfinder, as the name suggests it is your job to lead mankind to a new world and as you meet new friends and enemies, you are mankinds last hope.

So whats make it appealing? Lets take the best aspects of Mass Effect, throw in a new objective and an unknown part of the universe and see waht happens. I know that sounds odd but Mass Effect Andromeda lets you have free reign on how you build your character which means you are not stuck with a single class but a mix & match system.

So… does it make you want to buy it? Even though most people say the way that Mass Effect 3 ended tainted them to the franchise but Andromeda takes what was wrong with 3 and gives it new life with a lovely trip into the unknown. I would say to keep your eyes for our review when this game releases on 3/21/17. For those who want to know, I would say $$$$.

Prey (reboot)

prey-2017Interesting enough, Prey 2 (as it was originally known as) was in a some sort of hiatus when it was announced back in 2006 and its development beginning in 2009. It was later cancelled but Bethesda announced at E3 in 2016 that it would be a reboot of Prey and would use nothing from Prey 2 but the name and concept.

So what makes this game appealing? Prey (reboot) is set in an alternate timeline where JFK survived and US’s space program continued to flourish to where an alien force called the Typhon showed up and began attacking Earth. So, Earth and Aliens duking it out in a space station orbiting the Moon and the most interesting part is, according the the developers, the station will be one continuous level rather than having individual levels which will require the player to return to previous areas for clues.

So… does it make you want to buy it? Well, it brings thoughts of a more kiddy version of Dead Space but from the footage shown, but it does bring new elements that not many games have attempted. I would say that this game is $$

Well, there’s a few more games coming out this year that you should keep your eyes on.
