Dragon Ball FighterZ: What We Know

Ever since its inception into the gaming world back in ’86, Dragon Ball has seen its fair share of crazy concepts. From 2D fighters to action-adventure, Dragon Ball has done it all and when it was brought into the 3D fighting world, things took an unusual twist. Most people would agree that Dragon Ball, more specifically Dragon Ball Bodukai, the series had taken away from its fast-paced action for a more scenic look. Others would say that the series was hindered by the cell shading system that made the characters look goofy, especially with how advanced graphics have gotten.

Well, take all that and turn it upside down with Dragon Ball FighterZ, a new twist in the series and one that many fighting game fans would recognize. But before that, lets take a look at what we know.

The style

Dragon Ball FighterZ has ditched its goofy looking 3D cell shading style for a stream-lined 2.5D graphic style (similar to Guilty Gear or Blaz Blue) that looks like it came straight from the anime itself. One thing that is apparently being kept, is the large destruction of the landscape.A system that became popular in the later Budokai series, land destruction is here and better than ever. The creator’s hope is to bring that to level with its anime counterpart.

The gameplay

If you played any Dragon Ball Z game prior to this then you know that it was a 1v1 style game that allowed you fly around, fight and charge for your super moves using Ki energy. In Dragon Ball FighterZ, they have adopted the 3v3 style (similar to Marvel vs Capcom) into the Dragon Ball Universe. It also adopts the fast-paced game mechanics that fans of Guilty Gear enjoy. Another aspect is the tagging system. This allows you to switch your characters when you need to let one heal up.

Another item that will sure to bring happiness to the mediocre and hardcore fans is just like we stated above, land destruction. One thing that the creators are bringing to this is the mass destruction of the landscape during a super move or even minor destruction to buildings and background scenery when you block a Ki blast.

The final thought

Dragon Ball FighterZ is definitely bringing some things that fans of the series have been hoping for, for quite a long time. Slated for a 2018 release, we will have more info as it becomes available.
