Dreadnought’s New Mode

Tags:

Late last week, the team at Gearbox released a statement with a new game mode coming to it’s popular giant starship battling game. The new mode is called Conquest and if you are somewhat familiar with Battlefield’s Conquest mode… it’s kinda like it. In this mode, captains will be battling for control points across the map will spreading influence. The longer you hold the point, the more points you score and the first team to 2,500 points, wins. Here is the official rules for the mode from Greybox’s site:

Two Control Points, A and B, exist at opposite ends of each map and start in a neutral, uncaptured state. Ships entering the Control Point radius will begin capturing that point for their team. Progress towards the capture can be seen on the minimap and by looking in the direction of the Control Point node. Capture speed varies by ship class, with Corvettes capturing Control Points the fastest and Dreadnoughts the slowest.

Enemy captains can interrupt the capture progress by entering the Control Point radius. Until no enemy players exist within the radius, progress will be halted and instead begin reducing over time.

Once captured, Control Points add to a team’s territory percentage and become linkable. Players receive Defending points towards their personal Score by remaining near held Control Points and fighting off enemies attempting to capture the point for themselves.

Remember when we spoke about influence? In this mode, each ship class (sans corvettes) has a range of influence they spread over the map to claim territory for their respective team. If 2 opposing influences overlap, that section will be neutral and if you are killed, well… you don’t spread your influence until you respawn.

Even the minimap is important, it will be updated with crucial info as the match unfurls, showing you the state of owned territory in real time. One last item is most likely the most important; linking. Linking allows for maximum contribution to your team’s claimed territory and is done in 3 ways:

  1. Ship to Ship
  2. Ship to Control Point
  3. Ship to Home Base

This allows you to spread your influence even faster so its wise to remember this little tidbit of intel. But this can be severed by enemy players so its important to keep your formation tight when linking. Conquest Mode will be available later this month for the PC version and unknown for consoles (hopefully a month later). Stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
