Nintendo Switch Is Joining The Subscription Service

Do you remember when you use to be able to play games online r free? Well, Microsoft never did, Sony had it for a time and now the last of the consoles has succumbed to this fate. The Nintendo Switch was free to play when it launched but now will be requiring a subscription to play online. It sounds like it sucks… well it does but there is a little light left before the dark tunnel of subscription based services. Nintendo has announced that they will continue to provide free service well into 2018 but they will be introducing the subscription based service sometime before the end of 2018.

Now that seems like it sucks, which it does, but the price itself is actually not horrible. Upon its announcement of the prices they are:

  • $3.99 a month
  • $7.99 for 3 months
  • $19.99 for 1 year

As you can see it isn’t that horrible of a price but if you are in a household that has an Xbox or PS4, you can see that you are going to be coughing up some serious coin to play all your favorite games. Think its hopeless? Yes and no, but Nintendo is lessening the blow by giving people access to a classics library (kinda killing the possible classic SNES a little more) with some pretty nice titles, those are currently:

  1. Super Mario Bros. 3
  2. Balloon Fight
  3. Dr. Mario

But there are going to be way more than this that should be known at a later date. This is actually a left turn from what Nintendo originally said, stating that they were going to release a different game each month (similar to Xbox and PS4) are now giving you full access to the classic library. A nice touch Nintendo but still just another subscription that no one really needed.
