Rebel Galaxy Review

A game that takes place in the wild west of space but does it truly make you feel like a space cowboy?

Story:
The story begins with you coming to the backwater edge of the galaxy (their words) looking for your aunt that has sent a message to you asking to visit her. As you continue to look for her, you are introduced to a slew a “interesting” characters as you all vie to obtain a specific item that she has discovered. While you move along the main story there are numerous side missions and misc. events to keep your attention in your travels throughout space which can range from answering distress beacons and mysterious transmitter satellites to breaking militia blockades.
Rebel Galaxy definitely brings a nice semi linear main story campaign with a healthy dose of side missions and random events to keep you engaged for a long time.

I give the story a 8 out of 10

Gameplay:
Rebel Galaxy brings a familiar yet different experience to the space faring genre. Controls are relatively simple with a well-balanced movement and camera system that creates a seamless experience that keeps you having fun from mid combat all the way down to simple turning your ship (retro thrusters are a lot of fun). The only issue that I can find is while you are out of broadside mode (your main weapon system) the camera movement can seem a little tedious at times, however the game has no problem giving you a heads up for optimal movement (thanks computer voice).

I give the gameplay a 8.5 out of 10

Graphics:
For the graphics portion, i rated a little on a curve due to this game being only $20. So i gave a little reserve when grading this but this game did not disappoint. From the amazing colors of the nebulae and stars to the effects of blasters and missiles, even down to the maneuvering thrusters, the team at Double Damage brought everything that any fan of sci-fi would appreciate. The only issue that was present is when smaller debris or pieces of asteroid float near your ship, instead of floating ether above or below you they will sometimes float straight through your ship. Even with this small issue, Rebel Galaxy brings you as much or if not more than some of the AAA titles.

I give the graphics 8.5 out of 10

In the end, Rebel Galaxy brings everything that you would want in a space faring adventure and for a price tag of $20, this game does not disappoint in any way.

I give Rebel Galaxy a 8.3 out of 10.
