The 2nd Review

Bang For Your Buck: RPG

First I would like to say welcome to 2017. After the terrible disappointments of 2016, aka No Man’s Sky, The Division and many more disappointing games; I am looking forward to the New Year. So many great titles are coming out in 2017 and I can’t wait to start playing them.

One of my favorite genres of games is RPGs and the lineup looks amazing. RPGs are some of the most riveting games you can play. In my honest opinion, they offer the most compelling and in depth stories, they are graphically stunning with game play surroundings, provide some of the best musical scores ever and has a lot of hours of game play whether it is doing main story quests or the numerous hours of side quests. RPGs are great for new gamers and veteran gamers alike.

Today, I will be listing the top 3 anticipated RPG games coming out in 2017. So without further ado, let’s get this list started!

$ – Not worth buying
$$ – Worth Renting First
$$$ – Buy When Cheap
$$$$ – Definite Buy

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue:

Kingdom_Hearts_HD_2.8_Final_Chapter_Prologue_Logo_KHHDFCPFor Kingdom Hearts fans, this is a must. I know that most of the game is going to be the HD remake of Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance, which by the way is an OK game. Personally I was not a fan of the pokemonesque style of game play, but it added more meat to the story, which is the only reason why I played that game to begin with. The game will feature slight modifications to the minigames but making them into a card type system. But, what has me excited is the additional content.
Kingdom Heart 0.2: Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage looks absolutely gorgeous. After watching the game play trailer, my mind was immediately blown. Watching Aqua grind on an ice trail after casting blizzaga, defeating countless heartless made me realize that she is bad-ass and that the battle system is amazing.

The controls looked smooth and the atmosphere looks mystically grim as the world is falling apart from around her. I am curious to see how this unfolds with the rest of the Kingdom Hearts story line as well as see how long this game is going to be. From different sources, I heard that the game is roughly the same length as one world in Kingdom Hearts. Well, that can be a bit hard to judge as some worlds are longer than others. Regardless of the length though, this portion of the game is the light at the end of the tunnel for the much anticipated Kingdom Hearts III, which I’ll be 150 years old by the time that game comes out.

Another portion of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover. This is going to be another HD cinematic style story telling much like what was in the first 2 remake games. I am really looking forward to this as this is going to add huge story elements to the Kingdom Hearts Universe. It will be great to see something new to the history of Kingdom Hearts and see how this tale ties into the rest of Kingdom Hearts. The cinematic would be about an hour long, which is just enough time to learn more about the story.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is set to release World Wide on January 24th 2017 and I give it a $$$.

Horizon Zero Dawn:

horizon-zero-dawn-logo-whtAnother great anticipated RPG is Horizon Zero Dawn. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans are few in numbers and the lands are ravaged by robotic animals. These robotic monstrosities resemble futuristic dinosaurs and other vicious creatures. You play as Aloy, a hunter and survivor of the new world.

The game play mechanics look amazing. You can ride on robotic creature, taking down other hordes of robotic creatures using a bow and arrow or using a weapon called the Ropecaster to attack and take down enemies. Exportation and survival is the name of this game as you traverse a stunningly beautiful post-civilization world. The landscapes and sheer architecture of the game is a site to behold.
When I saw the first game play trailer of this I immediately said to myself, I have to have this. I am a big fan of open world action RPGs and this game is right up my alley. Spending hours taking in the sites and wondering what dangers lie around every corner while unraveling a riveting story is what I look for in these types of RPGs and that is why this game is one of my top anticipated games. From what I seen so far, it looks like it is going to have a great story, great game play and exploration concepts and one really good soundtrack.

Horizon Zero Dawn is set to release in North America on February 28th, 2017 and I give it a $$$.

Final Fantasy VII Remake:

FFVII_Remake_LogoThe last anticipated RPG that I am looking forward to the most is the Final Fantasy VII Remake. When I saw the E3 trailer of this, I immediately started screaming like some sort of crazed fan girl. I was blown away that it was finally happening. I told all my friends about it and they thought I was crazy, until they saw the trailer for themselves.

This game has been a long time coming for a lot of fans. We have been asking for this for years and our voices have been heard. According to sources, the game is set to episodic in nature due to its vast amount of content. I personally think this is a great idea. I would rather have this game in an episodic fashion as long as they keep or add content to the game. I do not want to see Square-Enix cut corners on this game or release the game with less content. That would be an insult to the game and a slap to the face to the fans. I watched another trailer on Final Fantasy VII’s remake game play and it looks impressive. It looks like the world itself is more expanded and the battle systems looks like it got an update.

Now some have asked about certain mechanics to the combat system such as; what do they plan to do about magic, summons, and limit breaks? To be completely honest, if Square-Enix uses a very similar combat system to that of Final Fantasy XV, then we would be fine. Using the techniques from Final Fantasy XV is really easy and straightforward, while providing great visuals. The same goes for the summons in the game, minus the fact that they would have to dumb down the requirements needed to cast the summons.

Since, the announcement there has been theory videos on YouTube for what people want or don’t want in the game. Some people are excited while others are scared that the game will drastically change for the worse. Honestly, it is hard to tell what is going to happen. Square-Enix has already released Final Fantasy XV and it is amazing. That gives me hope for the remake coming out.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is set to release in 2017 and I give it a $$$$.

I hope enjoyed reading this article and I want to know what RPG games you’re looking forward to this year. Look out for future gaming articles and more. Until then, enjoy the New Year and have fun playing all the great games coming out in 2017.
