Nintendo Classic Discontinued?

It was reported yesterday that after many issues (that included supply issues) Nintendo will be sending out their last shipments of the NES Classic console which included 30 retro games. In a statement that was released to IGN, Nintendo stated:

“Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.”

Which even with such issues, Nintendo’s plug n play console was one of the hottest items last year. The interesting part is that Nintendo wanted this to be a limited run and never had intentions to keep it going into the future (pointing to the Switch’s ability to play retro games to be their long term solution).

In January, Nintendo released the sales figures which during the 3rd quarter of 2016, they sold 1.5 million consoles. Not to shabby. If you don’t have one yet, check with your local retailers.
