The 2nd Review

The Evil Within Review

The Evil Within is a psychological survival horror game developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda. If I can sum up this game in a few short words it would be utter insanity. Now I know some people say this game isn’t so bad, that’s because they are probably playing this game in the day time or with the lights on like a bunch of chicken shits. How about you turn all the lights of, close the door, be by yourself and play in the dead of night with just your headset on or surround sound. Now immerse yourself in the game and let me know what you think now. I will be judging this game based on story, graphics and gameplay.

The Story:
You play as a veteran police detective named Sebastian Castellanos you are investigating a horrific murder case at Beacon mental Hospital. (Yay I can see where this is going). Well you get in and everything seems for a lack of a better term normal then all hell breaks loose and the game starts to mind fuck you. Shit is happening from all around, from crazies to weird ass nightmarish creatures. You find yourself delving in the darkest reaches of the mind where only your worst fears come to life and for this poor bastard that is certainly the case. The story completely throws your mind into a WTF moment as you try and figure out what is going on. I will not spoil any pieces of this story just for the fact that it is insanely good especially because of the crazy twists. The downside is that I wish there was more backstory on the side characters so you can see how they play role in this. Also, the story is pretty quick as you can beat this game in under 5 hours. If they made this game longer, that would be awesome. I gave this a solid 7/10

The Game Play:
I love The Evil Within gameplay. It’s a great horror survivor game with puzzles, but much harder. Ammo is scarce and running is sometimes the best option. Actually its more or less of sneaking. Trust running for too long =BAD! You can literally run out of breath and he will either slow down or don’t move at all. So play smart, not hard. But the biggest thing of all is that HEAD SHOTS DO NOT KILL ENEMIES!!! A lot of survivor horror games feature this, but this is not the case with this game. In fact just because you shot and killed the grotesque monster from the lower pits of hell, doesn’t mean they are officially dead. No, you have to burn the fucking bodies or they will come back to life and not just kill you, but tear you limb from bloody limb. But you are limited by the number of matches you can carry, so get created and burn baby burn. Leveling up is pretty insane also because when you upgrade your abilities, you don’t just go to a crappy menu screen, oh no no no, you go into an alternate hospital dimension and a creepy nurse tells you to sit in this creepy fucking chair and a insanely weird helmet gets dropped on your head and you upgrade through sheer cranial electric shock. You also use green brain juice as the currency for leveling up. With all the insane demented puzzles and crazy boss fights, you will love this game. I gave the game play a 9/10

The Graphics:
The graphics of this game are amazing. It sets the mood so well, blood, gore, sadistic torture, and much much more. The graphics bring this nightmare full circle and you can see in immaculate detail how bad Sebastian has it. The graphics gives you that feel that you are living the nightmare. But the best part of these graphics is how detailed you die in this game. There are a lot of different ways to die by enemies in this game and they are all extremely brutal. The death scenes are just so raw and the graphics really show you the horror of dying by these creatures. Overall, these graphics are amazing and I give them a 9/10.
Overall with amazing graphics, excellent gameplay and a pretty good story, I gave this game an 8.3.

Overall, this is an amazing game that delivers a good story with great graphics and a must own for anyone that loves a good scare. I give the game a 8.1 out of 10.
