The 2nd Review

EA did what to UFC 3?

The closed beta is firing on all cylinders and there are some issues showing up. Apparently EA has not learned it’s lesson about Star Wars Battlefront 2 and has decided to add microtransactions via loot boxes. Just like you unlock the infamous Star Cards that can boost your stats, the same concept is in UFC 3 where you can unlock new, more powerful moves and massive stat boosts for your characters for the Ultimate team mode. It was even labeled as

the single most egregious implementation of microtansactions to date

EA has stated that the multiplayer is still evenly balanced and the single player mode is not effected by the loot crates.

If that wasn’t enough, game footage has started to appear online and it’s…bad. Not just glitches or horrible animations, but a game that is the next iteration would be better. Comparing the beta on Xbox One X to UFC 2, the characters look less impressive and more ‘airbrushed’ than the previous title and the character animations look almost identical to the previous as well. One would think that they would take the time to try and give the characters a more fluid, realistic look but the fact is they look like they didn’t even try to make it look better.

Now, one would think that a game publisher would take the time to make it better but in EA’s eyes, they just don’t care about the core gamers and will only focus on the gamers that will pay to win. Which brings back to the fact that we, as gamers need to start boycotting EA’s games. But the problem is that there are developers out there that care about their games and how they perform but with the money hungering whore that is EA in control, we will get nothing more than a game that is chock full of loot crates and microtransactions that will be pay to win. With this being the 4th game in recent months to be hit with the controversy (Star Wars Battlefront 2, Need For Speed Payback & FIFA), it will be interesting to see if EA’s games are affected this holiday season.

EA’s UFC3 will be dropping in Q1 of 2018 so it will be interesting to see exactly what happens between now and then. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
